This original map of Siciliae Descriptio, dated 1667, is by Abraham Ortelius (1527 – 1598) and is from the Italian edition of Il Theatro del Mondo produced by Pietro Maria Marchetti (1565 – 1614). This map shows rivers, lakes, and many towns on the island of Sicily. The stipple sea is adorned with a sailing ship, a galley, a sea monster, and an erupting volcano. The framing is done to conservation standards with a museum mat and carved gold frame.
