This original Plan of Lagoon Heights, dated 1873, was surveyed by Richard L. Pease. This very decorative plan depicts a proposed real estate development of 949 building lots in present day Oak Bluffs on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. It includes two charming drawings of Victorian summer homes, as well as, a wonderful profile that runs along the left hand side of the elevated Lagoon Heights area. Despite the careful planning of the development as evidenced by this work, it was derailed by the Panic of 1873, the year the map was published, that ushered in a long depression. This plan is tinted and in good condition. The framing is done to conservation standards with an attractive carved burl wood frame.
