This original nautical chart of Long Island Sound, dated 1827, was engraved by Edmund M. Blunt for the publication American Coast Pilot. The book was initially published in 1796 and was the first book of American sailing directions published in the United States. This early survey of Long Island Sound spans from New York east to Block Island, including portions of coastal Connecticut and Rhode Island. It shows soundings, place names, notes on reefs, and fishing grounds. The chart is tinted, in good condition with some minor foxing along the fold lines. The framing is done to conservation standards with an attractive burl wood frame.
