This original nautical chart of Boston Harbour, dated 1854, was engraved by Edmund M. Blunt for the publication American Coast Pilot. The book was initially published in 1796 and was the first book of American sailing directions published in the United States. This chart has navigational detail of Boston Harbour, with soundings, rocks, shoals, anchorages, and lighthouses noted. The chart was based on earlier surveys, including a US Navy survey from 1817 and British surveys from the Revolutionary War period. The chart is tinted, in good condition with some minor foxing along the fold lines. The framing is done to conservation standards with an attractive burl wood frame.
